nurse-vidya-drishti
Nurses learning guide, bilingual
Patient admission and post-admission procedures explained in English and Telugu.
Tools I used
How it started
Nursing guidance existed on the wall in English while half the conversations on the floor happened in Telugu.
What actually happened
Nurse Vidya Drishti is a set of teaching posters that happens to be a website. Eight routes, one per topic: assessment, documentation, vital signs, medication, safety, communication and saline monitoring, all wrapped in a shared PosterLayout so every topic looks like part of the same series. Both languages are built into the data itself — each item carries title and titleTelugu, description and descriptionTelugu — rather than being handled by a translation library. That was a conscious choice for a fixed set of clinical text: the Telugu is written alongside the English and reviewed together, not generated afterwards. There is no database and no search; the content is static because clinical reference values should not be edited casually.
Moments that changed the build
- Me: "Both languages, at the same size." → Bilingual fields in every data object, so Telugu is never the smaller line.
- Me: "Every poster should feel like the same series." → One PosterLayout wrapping all eight topics.
- Me: "Should nurses be able to edit these?" → No. Reference ranges stay fixed and reviewed.
What broke
Nothing broke; the limit is discoverability. With eight posters and no search, you find things by remembering where they are.
What I learned
Translation is not a feature you add at the end. If the second language is real, it belongs in the data structure from the first screen.
